Description
Avondale Junior School of Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia was first opened in January 1910 by Mrs. M. Low in a room of her house on Avondale Ridge. The Principal in 1915, Miss E.D. Mold, chose the school colours: Òblue to represent the sky and ever looking upwards, black to represent the earth upon which our feet are firmly plantedÓ. Mr. N.J. Pearson (1929-32) designated the school badge and motto: ÒAttempt, Persevere, SucceedÓ. In this essay I intend to convey a written account of my experiences as an Avondale Junior School student in a period of transition of Rhodesia, Zimbabwe-Rhodesia and Zimbabwe at the end of 1979 to 1982. I hope that this written account brings back pleasant memories. I dedicate this book to all past and future students of Avondale Junior School. Enjoy the read!
