that everyone thought dead donned his mask and rode the frontier, seeking to ensure justice in
what was often a lawless land. It would be the rare person even today who hasn’t seen or heard
some of his thrilling tales. Though a work of fiction, research has shown that he may have been
based on a real lawman, which makes these stories all the more important and exciting.
In a fortunate twist of fate, some of the early issues of his comic stories fell into the public domain; at
