Description
Rising Stars is a curated, national platform to foster and champion talented early career makers.
Rising Stars offers an opportunity for these makers to exhibit professionally at an early stage of their career. It is also an exciting opportunity for collectors wishing to support and collect work by future stars.
Following a popular open call, the makers shortlisted for Rising Stars 2024 are:
Barbara Sulzberger, Caitlin Murphy, Carolina De Jesus, Charlotte Smith, Choi Chi Wing, Hanyi Feng, Jess Skelton, Laura Gibbs, Libby Daniels, Ling Yin Shum, Lucy Pearl Petts, Masuma Rahim, Molly Rigby, Monica Findlay, Olivia Barber, Philip Gay, Rachael Plassard, Richard Parr, Samuel Cheeseman,
Sandra Junele, Sarah Louise McQuarrie, Sarah White, Simone Brown, Sophie Wootton, Suluk Khalvati, Taylor Shaw, and Youyou Wang.
It is recognised that there is often a lack of representation from makers with Black, Asian, and
ethnically diverse backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ makers, and makers who identify as having a visible or non-visible disability in the southeast region. 52% of Rising Stars makers are from at least one of
these under-represented groups, making the exhibition a diverse and exciting showcase of early
career talent.
The 2024 panel of judges are Dan Goode (Making Goode), Dr Outi Remes (New Ashgate Gallery), Sharon Ting (University for the Creative Arts) and Debra Allman (UCA). One of the makers will be
presented with a professional development award and a solo exhibition at the New Ashgate Gallery.
Rising Stars 2024 is organised by New Ashgate Gallery Trust in partnership with The University for the Creative Arts and Making Goode. It is supported by the Radcliffe Trust and the Billmeir Charitable Trust.
