The B is for Bear textbook (two volumes) includes 32 lessons made up of reading passages, which are accompanied by vocabulary found in the text, phonics and spelling exercises, and reading comprehension questions. The reading selections are varied and include lyrical poetry, letters, short stories, fable, fairytales, mythology, history, biography, and autobiography. The textbook includes poetry to memorize and instruction on literary terms, such as anecdotes, plot, theme, setting, foil characters, fiction and non-fiction, fables, folktales, tall tales, fantasy, myth, fairytales, historical fiction, philippic, figures of speech: simile, metaphor, personification, paradox, allegory, irony, literal and figurative language, apostrophe, pathetic fallacy, and etymology.
