In the U.K. There has always been a fascination with the American West, perhaps because it matches in some strange way their own days of Robin Hood and chivalry, but with a more ÒmodernÓ flair. Who can say, but the Anglo-Saxon versions of Western legends tended toward more heroism than the facts might bear out. The BILLY THE KID who appeared weekly in The Sun in the 1950s was ÒThe Lone Avenger,Ó a peaceful, even meek, rancher who secretly fought against the lawless elements which threatened the territory. While the character bore little resemblance to the ruthless killer who actually carried the name, it was great reading!
