Description
Tanya brings an insiderÕs perspective, documenting a community she is part of. ÔThe aim of my project was to focus firmly on the here and now.
Tanya enjoys photographing the built environment and has roamed East Harlem extensively with her camera. But when she came to photograph the place she calls home, she wanted to go beyond the building faades and open up the street, and, by extension, her life. The building exteriors, the internal spaces and her neighbours all feature in her documentation of East 100th Street.
A selection of these photographs were recently featured in Tanya;s solo exhibition ‘I call this place home’ in conjunction with OCA, the Open College of the Arts and Banks Street Arts in Sheffield, UK. This was followed by a second exhibition ‘Shades of New York’ curated by John Clark and Andrew Conroy again at Bank Street Arts.
