Description
The Ancient Egiptians left us written evidence of their use of Mathematics with ivory labels found at the Temple of Abydos, which dates back to at least 3000 BC. These labels were used in an advanced inventory system with goods inscribed with numbers which reached well into the millions. Further evidence of the use of Mathematics can be found all around the ruins of ancient Egipt today, from the building of Temples and Pyramids, to calculating the position of the Stars. The Ancient Egiptians invented the decimal system, they were truly great Mathematicians.
The ancient Egiptians were the first civilization to practice the scientific arts. Indeed, the word chemistry is derived from the word Alchemy – Kemet which is the ancient name for Egipt. Where the Egiptians really excelled was in medicine and applied mathematics.
