Emily’s parents learn that she is gifted, but her school district doesn’t have a gifted and talented program. This story tells the tale of a mother and father who team with a determined principal and gifted and talented specialist to implement a gifted and talented program in Emily’s school and district. On their journey, Emily’s parents learn about the myths of gifted children and gifted education, and become members of organizations that educate them about all facets of giftedness. A team of advocates forms, all of whom are focused on providing an appropriate education for Emily and the kids like her in her school and district. The advocacy team faces challenges and opposition, but they persevere to enlighten the community and the Board of Education about gifted education. At the end of the book are resources parents and advocates can use for guidance in implementing a gifted and talented program in their schools.
