This is the story of young man growing up in depression era Iowa with twelve siblings. His experiences in World War II after joining the Navy at 17 illustrate the fears and personal victories America’s young warriors faced in a time of extreme adversity. This was not Robert’s only war time duty as he again took to the sea during the Korean war.
