Hans Holbein’s Dance of Death
is a visual representation of the
Dance Macabre morality plays
that date back as early as the
fourteenth century. The Dance
of Death is a Memento Mori,
a reminder meant to teach the
truth that all men must die and
that one should prepare themselves for their final judgment.

originally presented in BohnÕs
Illustrated Library: HolbeinÕs
