Description
This is the story of my experience of serving in The Jamaica Defence Force. It is both a historical record, a reflection and must read for every young officer.
This book is not for everybody. It may not be to your taste and /or style. It may even offend some. It may shock some and it may even amuse some. I left the JDF over 28 years ago and so I do not feel that there is anything sensitive or anything that I cannot or should not write about.
This is not an academic piece. This is my lived experience. I have made an effort to make it accessible and understandable.
Every story that I have laid out in this book can be corroborated. This is my recollection of events that took place and by the people involved. I have used pseudonyms to save a few blushes here and there.
The other thing to note is that each of the 108 stories has a song to go with it. Each song is date stamped and carries a number because that is the date in 2021 on which I posted the original story and song on my FaceBook page.
Here’s the back story to this book. In 2021 I undertook a personal challenge to write about one song, that had impacted my life, each day. I then posted that song and story on that day. Some songs coincide with significant anniversaries and so the date is important. Each song has a statement of why it was selected, followed by my story about the song or a story that anchors it and gives it relevance in this book. Only 108 of 365 songs and stories are featured in this book because those are the stories that are connected to the JDF. The complete 365 stories and songs are being published in another project.
I hope that those who read it will find it useful and ultimately it will be of value to current serving officers.
