A typical American probably knows little about Finland, or the citizens of this small Nordic nation now emerging from frozen isolation. Three years ago, FinnÕs celebrated their centennial year and much has been written about their educational system, their happy citizens, the sauna, and the personal characteristics of Finns. Among those evident traits are Sisu, stubbornness, silence, honesty, competitiveness, determination, gallows humor and an unshakable faith in God. These attributes were strongly evident in my dad, once described by a friend as, ÒThe roughest, toughest man the world has ever seen.Ó
