Description

This story was written in 1967 shortly after Rhodesia embarked on its journey to become Zimbabwe. The author arrived in the land in 1936 to be a policeman with the British South African Police. He served in the Second World War and returned to continue life in Rhodesia where he lived until his death in 1977. He writes of the people and animals of the land with a great affection . As a man of insight he could see that unless goodwill prevailed a time of great suffering would come upon all the people. The book was rejected by publishers at the time but in hindsight is a window on the attitudes and values that brought a beautiful land in to a time of suffering. His positive optimism is evident throughout the book and for anyone who has lived in Africa it will bring back memories of the beauty of the land and people. It is a story about a policeman, and a young lad who survived an attack by a leopard, and the extraordinary relationship that resulted between a white MP and an African Nationalist.
