The amateur detective Philo Vance originally appeared in a series of twelve mystery
novels penned by S. S. Van Dine, the pen name of author Willard Huntington Wright,
who at the time was a prominent art critic. Philo Vance was also featured in fifteen
movies, three radio dramas and an Italian television mini-series. Yet for all his
popularity in the 1930s and 1940s, Philo Vance’s only comic book appearances were in
six issues of Dell ComicÕs THE FUNNIES. Here are all six Philo Vance stories from THE
FUNNINES issues #58-63
