Pinyin Shorthand is a bilingual book based on Gao’s symbols. There are 21 consonant symbols and 36 vowel symbols in that shorthand system. The combinations of those symbols can record all sounds of Mandarin Chinese in a very fast way. The book has 64 pages (color-printing quality paper), 8.5×11″ in size, including some color pages, and the contents were printed in Chinese and English side by side for easy comparison. The book includes samples of Li Bai’s poems, Lincoln’s Gettysburg address and partial story of Wu Song Kills a Tiger, etc. both in Pinyin and shorthand forms.
