Description
Robert J Cross, my Great-Great Grandfather, is said to be the first permanent settler of Roscoe Township in Winnebago County, Illinois.
It was an unsettled area with only a few people in that part of the state when he came from Michigan.
Both Robert and his wife, Hannah Benedict, had ancestors that were in the westward movement from Britain, and from the East Coast of North America.
I have found numerous locations for information about him and have included many of them here. Some of the history book references are about his brother William H. Cross since they include information pertinent to the life of Robert.
