Description
The school year began with me realizing that I was the first and only white person in this all-black school. Now that I realized that this school needed to be integrated to receive federal funding, the principal’s question, “Are you white?” made sense. My first teaching experience in 1966 was an important part of history but all I was doing was trying to survive.
