Water Data to Support Enhanced Management in Colorado’s Arkansas River Basin

Description

Like other river basins in the semi-arid Western United States, pressures on the critical water resources of the Arkansas River Basin in Colorado are mounting. An extensive endeavor to monitor and describe major hydrological and water quality features of the basin is reported and discussed herein. Focusing on the irrigated stream-aquifer system within the valley alluvium, the aim is to provide data both for an assessment of current conditions and to support models and
decision-making for improved management of the Arkansas River BasinÕs water resources. The study spans 13 years and covers regions that are representative of both the intermountain and lower valley portions of the basin. Flows, water levels, and solute concentrations and loads, along with characteristics that
affect them, are addressed.
