During the long run of YOUNG LOVE (1949-1957), the team of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby Ð both together and separately Ð anchored the series, providing covers and/or stories for most issues, and sometimes handling most of the content. These masters of the Golden Age (and beyond), celebrated for their superheroes, adventures and fantasies, were also the dominant force in the romance genre, a type of comic that was successful not just for years, but for decades. The stories and covers in this collection were pencilled, inked, or both, by one or both of these artists. Brought to you by demand of the readers, this GIANT book has never been produced before; like true love, it is an original that can never be imitated!
We used the excellent work of the Grand Comics Database (comics.org) to determine which covers and stories belonged in this book. Attribution of comic stories is not an exact science in all cases, even when it concerns artists with the distinctive styles of Simon & Kirby. These artists had extreme influence on other artists in YOUNG LOVE and other titles; also, various pencillers or inkers may have different levels of impact on the final product. It is POSSIBLE that a story is included which did not have significant S&K input; it is also possible that we missed a cover or story that should have been included. We used the experts and the best information available; and in the end, you are going to love it!
