Description
1983-84 on Fire Island, a barrier beach off the coast of Long Island, New York. During the summer, Fire Island is crowded with home owners and day trippers, but in winter only a few hardy residents remain. The island houses a small school of 35 students where I have worked. There are no roads on Fire Island and only the school bus and emergency vehicles are permitted on the sand.
Now in eighth grade Jeff discovers Meg, a friend from fourth grade, is back on Fire Island. Meg deals with rejection as she is bounced about by a broken family. A renewed bond grows between Jeff and Meg.
Friendship and families, conflict and courage, change the lives of the characters in this story. This book encourages discussions concerning fears and rejection. The Old ManÕs untold story will both engage and spook the readers.
