The Three Musketeers: Meenmore Letter Transcriptions from America

Description

This book contains transcriptions of letters sent home by three young emigrants to Pennsylvania in 1853 from Meenmore, Dungloe, Co. Donegal, Ireland. They were John Sweeney, John Boyle, and Patrick Ward, and their mentor was Charles M. Boyle. The first two died early – from consumption and yellow fever. Patrick Ward went on to St Louis University, and was ordained a Jesuit priest – Patrick J. Ward S.J. He served in St Mary’s College, Kansas, St Xavier’s Church, Cincinnati and St Xavier’s Church, St. Louis. There is also some background information on the authors. The volume “The Three Musketeers from Meenmore-2” contains facsimiles of the actual letters.
